Gary Vaynerchuk: How to do Web 2.0

I stumbled across Gary Vaynerchuk as I was researching Web 2.0 and how to build natural web traffic. I don't remember exactly how; but I just found one of his vids. It happened to be 1 trick ponies - I DON'T THINK SO. So I got my first taste of Gary V on April 7th.

My first impression is that Gary comes off as a regular guy - nothing more, nothing less - just regular. And talk about perfect timing - We are trying to tackle marketing our recycling/helping families thing and we want to answer some basic questions first, like: "what is W2.0?" and "Does W2.0 really work?" and the big one, "SHOULD I 'DO' THIS W2.0 THING?

Gary answered our questions by DOING it. It was like I was looking at a clear case study of "how to do W2.0" when I was watching his vid.

Back to my research. . .

I wanted to find someone whose ideas and philosophies I can trust with our fledgling business. Isn't that what you do when you read or research something on the web? Aren't you looking for someone to trust?

And I don't want to waste my time reading someone's stuff like I found at Stomperblog. (Notice no link here - find out about them on your own. The article that made me stop reading their blog is called Pure Evil: 10 More Devious Ranking Tips.) That clearly made me STOP visiting their site. They might have valuable information there, but their methodology and philosophy has a little stinky stink.

Gary V struck me as the kind of guy that is sincere, honest and direct. I like that style in a teacher. He is easy on the ears and I like his quick-and-to-the-point manner. That is just me - I like that kind of teacher. Especially, as I am looking at this W2.0 phenomena.

So I keep watching his vids and I keep liking what he has to say more and more. And he blows me away with his How to cut through the Noise? on April 30th.

So I take his challenge and send him an email:

Gary knows how to create a customer/friend/fan with sincerity.

Man, oh man! This is genius: THIS is WEB 2.0!

What is most profound is that Gary is in the wine industry. I am in the recycling industry. There is absolutely no connection. None. Nada. I would never, ever think of networking with a dude that sells wine. Are you kidding me again? I don't even drink any alcohol! But, talk about a "wine" guy that totally has an understanding of this W2.0 stuff!

I truly hope that you are an entrepreneur or business owner that is looking at growing your business - right now - in 2008 - with THESE economic conditions. It can be done - Gary is proof - Cells for Cells is proof.

And now the meat and potatoes of what really prompted me to write this post. Just watch Gary's latest vid called It's not what you know OR who you know; it's where you are going!
